I would like to start off by making one thing very clear – I had no intention of being where I am today. Quite frankly, I have no idea how I got here. Two and a half years ago, before I started Well Rested Mama, I can confidently tell you that everything I am doing was perfectly placed in the never would I ever column of my picture-perfect life. You know, the one on Instagram with the cute pictures of my kids. As a matter of fact, calling myself an Entrepreneur still develops a giggle every single time. It literally never gets old.
Everything I am about to share with you, is everything that I let get in my way before I decided to take the plunge. The things that start to make you rethink everything. Becoming a Sleep Consultant is the easy part – I completed the course in record time, while wrapping up my third pregnancy. The information was interesting, and I was in a can’t stop won’t stop state of mind. I was determined to get certified and get the tiny human inside of me out. I reached my goals, had a baby and launched a website – But, then what?
Figure out why you are becoming a Sleep Consultant and own it. If we’re being completely honest, my why two years ago is no longer relevant. My original why was because I started the Florida Real Estate process and never finished. I knew I would never hear the end of this third trimester hormonal decision if I let this one drop. I had to own my decision and although I decided that I wanted to become a Sleep Consultant, I really hadn’t thought it all the way through. I was starting a BUSINESS! That surprised me too. Once I had time to really absorb it all, my why changed. I realized a few things – I was helping people. I was happy and excited to do the work. I was motivated to work harder every single day. And most of all, I was really freaking proud of myself.
It takes money to make money. We all know that. Am I saying that you need to go spend $100k on your brand? Absolutely not. However, it is important that you are exposing your brand and reaching clients outside of your circle. Offer incentives to clients. Whether it’s a referral program or an incentive. Create a system that encourages your clients to share you! Make them shout your name from the rooftops! You can offer additional services for every referral. You can offer a $5 gift card for a google review. Find something that benefits the client, but also benefits your business!
Whether you believe it or not – YOU are your brand. You can give a tired parent a full night’s sleep – Could you think of anything better? I mean, really – that is Santa Claus level! The only thing new parents want, is YOU. Every time you pick up that phone, answer an email, or post on social media – know that you are making a difference. Be confident in your delivery and let every parent know that you will give it your all and be with them every step of the way.
We all know social media has taken over the world of advertising and marketing. It’s 2021 – No one is going to find your ad in the newspaper. You must get yourself out there and social media is going to be one of the most affective, and affordable, ways to do so. Every influencer you follow started from the bottom. Whether they have 600k followers or 10k followers, they put in the work. They did not care about what people were going to say. They showed up, shared content, talked to the screen, and monetized their brand. I will be the first to admit that getting on social media and starting an Instagram page from 0 followers was not fun. I wasn’t an influencer, yet people assumed I was trying to be. I was worried about what they would say. Trust me, I get it. It was weird for all of us – Especially me! (Another thing you can file under the never would I ever column) However, I am here to tell you a few things – Your real friends aren’t going to judge you. They will cheer you on and be proud of you. You will start to connect with strangers that need your help. You will monetize your efforts and realize how freaking cool it is to have an Instagram platform. I’m not here to tell you it’s going to be easy. In fact, I consider it one of the hardest parts of the job. But I am here to tell you to let go of the idea of judgment and give it your all.
It takes courage and hard work to get to where you are. You had an idea. You followed through. It’s time to make it happen. Put in the work and know that it will all be worth it. You love what you’re doing, and you are changing so many lives. Take it one day at a time and realize that it’s going to take time. Do not compare yourself to others and waste time wondering what they are doing differently. It is your business, and your journey might look a little differently – But that’s okay. The world we be a boring place if we all traveled the same route. Be proud of yourself and use every day to take one step farther.
Starting a business can be terrifying and there are so many reasons to give up. There is a reason you are here, and you have the power to make your dreams come true. Put in the work and do not let anyone get in your way.
